Versión española del Prosthesis Evaluation Questionnaire (PEQ): parte inicial de su adaptación transcultural

Introduction. Measuring the outcomes of rehabilitation of persons who have had a lower extremity amputation is complex because of the many dimensions and qualities that contribute to an outcome. The Prosthesis Evaluation Questionnaire (PEQ) was developed to determine the level of function and extent of prosthetic use and to measure major life domains connected with prosthesis function. Objetive. The purpose of this study is the production of the Spanish version of the Prosthesis Evaluation Questionnaire, which is the first step of the cross-cultural adaptation process of this questionnaire to Spanish. Material and method. PEQ is a self-reported instrument, which is specific to persons with lower limb amputations, composed by 82 questions, 42 of which are grouped into 9 validated scales, while the other 40 evaluate other areas. In order to produce the Spanish version the translation/back-translation method was followed with committee review. The preliminary version thus obtained underwent a pretesting study with patient sample in order to get the final Spanish version. Results. 72 items had literal translation; 10 items suffered syntactic modifications. After pretesting study examples in brackets were added in 5 items in order to make them more comprehensible. Conclusions. The Spanish version of the Prosthesis Evaluation Questionnaire was obtained, which will undergo the cross-cultural adaptation process of this questionnaire to Spanish.
