Abstract
Background

Simulation is a pedagogical methodology that promotes the development of technical, scientific, communicational, relational, and leadership skills without compromising people's safety. This study aimed to analyze the association between Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support simulation practice and Internal Medical Emergency Teams nurses’ self-perceived competence and assess changes in their self-perception before, immediately after, and three months post-training.

Methods

A prospective cohort study with intervention, consisting of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support simulation practice and assessment, was carried out before the course, immediately after the course, and three months after the course regarding self-perception of nurse's skills. The sample consists of 26 nurses. The simulation practices were conducted in teams of 4–6 nurses per instructor, and nurses were randomly assigned to the simulated practice teams.

Results

Non-parametric analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon test. Significance was measured. There was a trend of improvement in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support skills perception, particularly immediately after the course and continued over time. The simulation training was effective and essential to improve the professionals’ skills and perception of their performance, and it lasted for three months to improve the professionals’ skills and performance perceptions.

Conclusions

Self-perception skills seem to influence comfort and confidence in acting, and it is possible to affirm that simulated practices contributed to improving nurse's self-assessment of their ability to act.

Antecedentes

La simulación es una metodología pedagógica que promueve el desarrollo de habilidades técnicas, científicas, comunicacionales, relacionales y de liderazgo sin comprometer la seguridad de las personas. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la asociación entre la práctica de simulación de soporte vital cardiovascular avanzado y la autopercepción de competencia del personal de enfermería de los equipos médicos de emergencias, así como evaluar los cambios en su autopercepción antes, inmediatamente después y 3 meses tras el entrenamiento.

Métodos

Se llevó a cabo un estudio de cohorte prospectivo con intervención, que consistió en la práctica y evaluación de simulación de soporte vital cardiovascular avanzado antes del curso, inmediatamente después del curso y 3 meses después del curso, en relación con la autopercepción de las habilidades de las enfermeras. La muestra consistió en 26 enfermeras. Las prácticas de simulación se realizaron en equipos de 4 a 6 enfermeras por instructor, y las enfermeras fueron asignadas aleatoriamente a los equipos de práctica simulada.

Resultados

Se realizó un análisis no paramétrico utilizando la prueba de Wilcoxon. Se midió la significación. Hubo una tendencia de mejora en la percepción de habilidades en soporte vital cardiovascular avanzado, particularmente justo después del curso y continuada en el tiempo. El entrenamiento en simulación fue efectivo y esencial para mejorar las habilidades de los profesionales y la percepción de su desempeño, y se mantuvo durante 3 meses.

Conclusiones

Las habilidades de autopercepción parecen influir en la comodidad y la confianza para actuar, y es posible afirmar que las prácticas simuladas contribuyeron a mejorar la autoevaluación de las enfermeras sobre su capacidad para actuar.
