Material didáctico para el estudio y seguimiento de la disfunción eréctil en atención primaria

Introduction: Erectile dysfunction is defined as the persistent or recurrent inability to achieve or maintain the enough stiffness of the penis, which permits a satisfactory sexual relation. It is one of the most prevalent chronic health problems in men older than 40, and it should be a frequent cause of consulting the family doctor. Nevertheless, only the 10% of the affected patients from this pathology receive medical care. Objective: In view of this information, a group of primary care medical women and andrologists decided to elaborate a didactic materials in order to motivate to possible patients affected from dysfunction and their couples to consult this pathology to their doctor, and also with the purpose of being a help for our Primary Care colleges that initiate themselves in subjects related to sexuality. Method: For this purpose, we elaborated the following materials: informative leaflets for the patient, to place outside the medical office; easy educative materials to explain the patient the mechanism of erection and the risk factors related to dysfunction; desk materials with leaflets for the patient's couple and also for the patient, with explanations about the medication prescribed, side effects, interactions, posology; and a poster to be hung on the office's door or in the waiting room, in which the patient is invited to consult his doctor in case of any erectile problem. Conclusion: We think all this materials can be an important help both for the patients affected from erectile dysfunction but also for the primary care doctor, and should provide an increase of detection and treatment of this pathology.
