The first issue of Annals of Hepatology was published in January 2002, with the enthusiastic participation of close friends distinguished in the academic sector (unfortunately some of them passed away). Our initiative was applauded by the Latin American community of hepatologists in the editorial field. Numerous collaborators have joined the Annals of Hepatology team since then, transforming our journal into a successful international reference in hepatology.

The founder and first editor-in-chief, Professor Nahum Méndez-Sánchez, acting with the full support of Fundación Clínica Médica Sur and invaluable cooperation with the Mexican Association of Hepatology, the Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver, and the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver. Worked diligently and helped guide the journal to a period of steady growth.

Subsequently, under the wise guidance of Professor Arturo Panduro, second Editor-in-Chief, the journal formed additional collaborative relationships with a number of new partners including the Czech Society of Hepatology. The impact of the journal has grown consistently in recent years; however, equally important has been the creation of a great team, a highly professional and ethical group of international editors and reviewers.

As the new editor-in-chief of Annals of Hepatology, I am fully committed to this project, to the ideals and science guiding it, but especially, to the people who make it possible. I wish to thank all those who have collaborated with us, and I encourage everyone involved in this endeavor to increase their efforts towards the creation of innovative solutions for researchers and clinicians around the world.
