To improve their skills, health authorities must also encourage tutors to undertake continuous training activities.1

Not all communities have yet developed a specific regulation. In the autonomous communities that have done so, the recognition of tutorial work varies substantially, from considering teaching in terms of credits for a professional career, reducing the hours of caring work to spend time tutoring or teaching interns, and economic reward for tutorial work.3–5

The everyday reality in training centres often varies from what the regulations stipulate. The creation of specific regulations is an important step towards the accreditation and recognition of tutors, although it is of core importance for centres to monitor and discover the degree to which the said regulations are obeyed, implementing corrective measures to ensure high quality training and tutoring.

Although since 2011 our tutors have worked hard in the specialist training of Family and Community Nursing interns, they are subjected to increasing demands for greater involvement, quality and rigour in their teaching activities. Nevertheless, this responsibility has neither been nor is accompanied by sufficient recognition or personal and professional rewards.

Tutors currently combine teaching interns with a high level of over-work in primary health care, as well as working on their own training and to increase their skills. Clinical activity is often prioritised over the training of the tutors themselves and the hours spent teaching, so that tutors spend their own time monitoring the education of interns.

In spite of the widespread commitment displayed by tutors during these years, we run the risk of exhausting, demotivating and frustrating present and future tutors due to the lack of management and encouragement of teaching volunteering by institutions.

It is indispensable to continue consolidating the figure of intern resident Family and Community Nursing tutors within medical institutions. It is clear that what has been done to date is insufficient, and we have to ensure continuity in motivation and teaching excellence by means of the professionalization of teaching and the implementation of recognition and the personal and professional incentives which are necessary in each context.
Financing
The author declares that she has received no financing for this work.
" "textoCompletoSecciones" => array:1 [ "secciones" => array:3 [ 0 => array:2 [ "identificador" => "sec0005" "titulo" => "Financing" ] 1 => array:2 [ "identificador" => "xack435121" "titulo" => "Acknowledgements" ] 2 => array:1 [ "titulo" => "References" ] ] ] "pdfFichero" => "main.pdf" "tienePdf" => true "NotaPie" => array:1 [ 0 => array:2 [ "etiqueta" => "☆" "nota" => "
Please cite this article as: Villa-García L.
