Nuestros resultados en ICSI con espermatozoides congelados y frescos obtenidos por TESE

Introduction: At the present time, the accomplishment of ICSI with testicular sperm obtained by TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction) is a highly effective way and with excellent results in fertility treatments when the masculine factor is severe. In this article we display the results of ICSI with fresh and frozen-thawed sperm obtained by TESE in our center. Materials and method: We review retrospectively from year 2002 to 2004 a total of 135 TESE-ICSI of which 80 (59.3%) was realized with fresh sperm and 55 (40.7%) with frozen sperm. We determine mobility (degree ++/+++), fertilization rate, average of transferred embryos, pregnancy rate and abortion rate comparing both groups Results: In the fresh sperm group 62 (77.5%) had movility ++/+++ nevertheless in the frozen-thawed group only 16 (29%) had that movility. The fertilization rate was 56.4% in fresh and 46,5% in frozen sperm group. The average number of transferred embryos was of 2.5, with a pregnancy rate of 16.25% vs 16.36% in fresh versus frozen sperm group, respectively. Only there was one abortion (7.6%) in the fresh sperm group versus 3 (33.3%) in the frozen-thawed group. Conclusions: The fresh sperms have a greater mobility rate. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in fertilizaton, pregnancy and abortion rate. This information must be considered in our way when we inform the pairs about the result of the TESE-ICSI.
