Abstract

Baclofen is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) B receptor agonist used to treat spasticity in patients with spinal cord injury. It can be administered intrathecally or orally. The following is the case of a 62-year-old male patient with a history of spinal cord injury at the level of the fourth and fifth cervical vertebrae. He was receiving treatment with oral baclofen for spasticity. He was admitted with proctosigmoiditis, and his usual medication was discontinued. Afterward, he presented with symptoms of disorientation and hallucinations, which resolved after oral baclofen was reintroduced. Consequently, the potential risk of developing withdrawal symptoms after abrupt baclofen discontinuation is highlighted.
