Identification, phylogenetic analysis, and genome mining of the tetracycline-resistant Bacillus thuringiensis strain m401 reveal its potential for biotechnological and biocontrol applications
Adriana M. Alippi, Florencia Lamelza, Gonzalo A. Torres Tejerizo, Eliana Abrahamovich, Ana C. López
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2023;55:317-31
Highlights

  • Bacillus thuringiensis m401 has potential applications as a biocontrol agent.

  • The genome of Bt m401 comprises genes associated with antibiotic resistance, toxins, and antimicrobial peptides.

  • Bacillus thuringiensis m401 harbors the tet(45) resistant gene in the chromosome.

  • Bt m401 showed high inhibition against all Paenibacillus larvae genotypes (n=52) tested in vitro.

Natalia A. Carrion, Rodolfo E. Quiroz, Camila Asenzo, Manuela Gamarra, Antonio E. Flores, Maria Garcia, Rolando N. Soloaga, Julia Grigioni, ... Guadalupe Perez
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2023;55:332-6
Highlights

Impact of the multiplex molecular FilmArray Respiratory Panel on antibiotic prescription and clinical management of immunocompromised adults with suspected acute respiratory tract infections: A retrospective before–after study
Silvina Bergese, Bárbara Fox, Natalia García-Allende, María Elisa Elisiri, Ana Elizabeth Schneider, Juan Ruiz, Sol Gonzalez-Fraga, Viviana Rodriguez, Liliana Fernandez-Canigia
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2023;55:337-44
Highlights

  • FilmArray Respiratory Panel was associated with fewer antimicrobial prescriptions.

  • The main impact was the reduction of macrolides and beta-lactams prescriptions.

  • Immunocompromised patients could be the most favored using rapid molecular testing.

Marta Rivas, Mariana Pichel, Mariana Colonna, Adrián López Casanello, Laura F. Alconcher, Jimena Galavotti, Iliana Principi, Sofía Pérez Araujo, ... EPI-HUS Investigation Team
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2023;55:345-54
Highlights

  • A prospective study on STEC-bloody diarrhea was performed in Argentina between October 2018 and June 2019.

  • Twenty-nine (4.1%) of 714 bloody diarrhea patients aged 1–9 years were STEC-positive.

  • Four (13.8%) bloody diarrhea cases progressed to HUS 3–9 days after diarrhea onset.

  • The most common serotypes among BD and HUS cases were O157:H7 and O145:H28.

  • The prevalent genotypes among BD and HUS cases were stx2a-only or -associated.
