Resumo
As revisões sistemáticas constituem instrumentos valiosos para o clínico permitindo uma abordagem crítica integrada do conhecimento científico orientada para a resposta a uma questão clínica relevante baseada na melhor evidência científica disponível. Em situações específicas, a informação recolhida e seleccionada numa revisão sistemática pode ainda ser tratada estatisticamente visando a obtenção de uma estimativa de efeito comum inter-estudos, através de uma metaanálise. A elaboração de uma revisão sistemática obedece a um protocolo rigoroso e padronizado, cujos aspectos serão discutidos neste artigo. Serão também abordadas a aplicabilidade real dos resultados de uma revisão sistemática num contexto clínico bem como os parâmetros a considerar na sua avaliação qualitativa.

Abstract
Systematic reviews are invaluable tools for the practitioner, providing a critical and comprehensive approach of the scientific knowledge, with the aim of answering a clinically relevant question based on the best scientific evidence available. In specific cases, data collected and selected in a systematic review can additionally be submitted to statistical analysis to obtain the average global effect between studies through a meta-analysis. Conducting systematic reviews addresses to rigorous and standardized methodology, which will be discussed throughout this article. The application of the results of a systematic review in the clinical setting and the relevant features to be taken into consideration when evaluating these reviews, will also be referred.
