Examination of risks affecting the formation of cervical disc herniation with FMEA and Pareto analysis methodology

Abstract

Background and objectives

The study aims to determine risk levels of incorrect movements and behaviors that affect the formation of Cervical Disc Herniation (CDH) using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and identify critical risks with Pareto Analysis.

Methods

22 risks that affect the formation of CDH have been identified, evaluated by the FMEA team, and a Risk Priority Number (RPN) has been calculated to create an FMEA table. Pareto Analysis has been conducted.

Results

According to the 40–60% ratio values in Pareto Analysis, it is observed that traffic accidents, weakness in neck muscles, manual therapy performed by non-experts, and mobile phone usage stand out and are significant risks.

Discussion

It is understood that by focusing on solving the top 4 risks that stand out in the RPN ranking, which we have identified through FMEA and Pareto Analysis systems, a large part of this problem can be solved by addressing a small number of risks.

Antecedentes y objetivos

El estudio tiene como objetivo determinar los niveles de riesgo de los movimientos y comportamientos incorrectos que afectan la formación de la hernia discal cervical (HDC) utilizando el análisis de modos de falla y efectos (AMFE) e identificar los riesgos críticos mediante el análisis de Pareto.

Métodos

Se han identificado 22 riesgos que afectan a la formación de la HDC, evaluados por el equipo AMFE, y se ha calculado un número de prioridad de riesgo (NPR) para crear una tabla AMFE. Se ha realizado un snálisis de Pareto.

Resultados

Según los valores de la ratio del 40 al 60% en el análisis de Pareto, se observa que los accidentes de tráfico, la debilidad en los músculos del cuello, la terapia manual realizada por no expertos y el uso del teléfono móvil se destacan como riesgos significativos.

Discusión

Se entiende que, al centrarse en resolver los 4 principales riesgos que destacan en el ranking del NPR, los cuales hemos identificado a través de los sistemas AMFE y análisis de Pareto, gran parte de este problema puede resolverse abordando un pequeño número de riesgos.
