Abstract
Objective

This study aimed to analyze the risk of nutritional intake and helminthiasis to experience underweight among elementary school students.

Method

This study applied case control design. This study was conducted in three sub-districts in Makassar City. There were 82 students from eight schools participated. Micronutrients and macronutrients intake were obtained by means of 2×24h food recall questionnaire. Body Mass Index data was collected by weight and height measurement with the use of weight-scales and stature meter. Helminthiasis was diagnosed from faces laboratory analysis.

Results

There were no relationship among that variables. However, the intake of protein (p=0.712; OR 1.28), vitamin B12 (p=0.349; OR=1.843) and Zinc (p=0.675; OR=1.417) give higher risk for the students to experience underweighted.

Conclusion

There was no significance relationship between macronutrient and micronutrient intake and helminthiasis with the underweighted incidence within the students in Makassar. However, inadequate intake of protein, vitamin B12, and zinc get higher risk to undergo underweight condition.
