Radiological imaging of gastric carcinoma with a mucinous component may guide the initial diagnosis prior to histological confirmation. Characteristic features are the submucosal infiltration of the gastric wall, the hypodense mucin component and multiple calcifications of nodular appearance in relation to a glycoprotein that acts as an ion exchanger and accumulates calcium bound to phosphate.

We present a computed tomography scan of a 52-year-old female patient with concentric and stenosing gastric wall thickening, with very abundant intramural calcifications compatible with mucinous neoplasia (Figs. 1 and 2). Histological diagnosis confirmed gastric adenocarcinoma with mucinous component, poorly cohesive, with signet ring cells.
