Chronic migraine is a debilitating neurological disorder that significantly impacts patients’ quality of life, affecting their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Botulinum toxin has emerged as an effective preventive treatment; however, the role of specialized nursing interventions in optimizing patient outcomes remains underexplored. High-quality nursing care, particularly in communication and patient-centered support, may enhance treatment satisfaction and mitigate the burden of migraines on daily life. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of specialized nursing interventions on patient satisfaction and quality of life in individuals with chronic migraine undergoing botulinum toxin treatment. It also sought to explore the association between nursing care quality and the psychological, emotional, and daily life impact of migraines.
MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2024 to July 2024 across clinical centers in Italy, utilizing a structured questionnaires to assess patient satisfaction and migraine-specific quality of life during quarterly visits for botulinum toxin administration. The survey included sociodemographic and clinical data, satisfaction with nursing care, and the impact of migraines on quality of life. Statistical analyses explored relationships between sociodemographic factors, nursing interventions, and quality-of-life outcomes.
ResultsOne hundred fifteen patients were enrolled and reported high satisfaction with specialized nursing care, particularly in communication and attentiveness. Effective nursing interventions correlated with improved quality-of-life outcomes, reducing the psychological and social impact of migraines.
ConclusionsSpecialized nursing care enhances patient satisfaction and supports a holistic approach to migraine management. Integrating tailored nursing interventions into chronic migraine treatment could improve both clinical and emotional patient outcomes.
