June 2023 was a historic month for Radiología [Radiology] as it received its first impact factor (IF). Until now, the IF was only granted to journals indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)1 and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI),2 but in summer 2022 Clarivate Analytics3 decided to extend this metric to all journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection and its various databases (Arts and Humanities Citation Index [AHCI] and Emerging Sources Citation Index [ESCI]), among which is Radiología.

This unilateral decision by Clarivate does not detract from the merit of our journal. The IF is a further incentive to publish in Radiología as it is a seal of quality. But the editorial timelines already consolidated in 2023, thanks to the agility in editorial decision-making, is another incentive to publish in our journal. Beyond the IF, my main objective since I was appointed Editor-in-Chief in May 2022 has been to bring Radiología closer to all Spanish radiologists and, in this sense, all my expectations are being exceeded. Throughout 2023, Radiología has increased its manuscripts received by 30%; it has increased its downloads in both Spanish and English and its Twitter account @RevistaRADIOLO24 has added more than 2000 followers over the course of this year. It gives me great satisfaction to see the interest that the editorial training is generating among the members of the Sociedad Española de Radiología Médica (SERAM) [Spanish Society of Medical Radiology], with applications for both the Dr. Calatayud editorial scholarship and the Dr. Soler article reviewer scholarship having increased considerably in 2023. The webinars of the journal Radiología have also been very well received. Editorialism is in fashion and our journal has to lead the way.

Any reader familiar with the metrics knows that, in order to calculate the IF of a journal in a given year, the citations and articles published in the journals of the Web of Science Core Collection5 during the previous two years6 are taken into account. But these citations are the result of years of dissemination and indexing in databases. Therefore, this IF is not to the credit of the current Editorial Board or the previous Editorial Board. Much less does it represent the isolated work of one editor-in-chief, and it would be most unfair and pretentious for any of us who have held the position to take credit for it individually. This IF is the result of the efforts of many professionals over many years, thanks to whom the journal is where it is today. I therefore dedicate this editorial to all our colleagues who have been part of the Editorial Board at some point in their professional career and, of course, to those who are still with us today. I would also like to thank all the editorial interns who work with great enthusiasm and who guarantee the future of Radiología. Thanks to the reviewers who help to improve the quality of our articles. Thanks to the authors for the trust placed in Radiología to disseminate their advances to the entire scientific community. Thanks to our readers who are showing more and more interest in our content. And, of course, thanks to SERAM for supporting all the actions undertaken by the journal. I simply have the honour of being here and now working for Radiología to the best of my ability. Being Editor-in-Chief at the time of obtaining the IF was just a nice coincidence. A very nice one.
