Abstract
Background

The role of media is not only to give information about social matters but it also has a significant role in educating health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

Purpose

The present study investigated how media networks in Indonesia responded to the COVID-19 by providing adaptation strategies to prevent its effects. The current research aims were not only to foster awareness of health issues but also to analyze the role of media in changing public behavior and health concerns.

Methods

The study employs a qualitative research design and interviews were conducted with the general public, including those who were infected with COVID-19, students, and staff working in hospitals, educational institutions, and public service departments. The interviews were analyzed through thematic analysis.

Results

The study's findings reveal that the participants of the study adopted multiple adaptation strategies for the prevention of COVID-19 that have been introduced, including media accessibility for updates, online media engagement for social connectedness, highlighting public health issues, developing trust among communities, and providing social support through media.

Conclusion

The pandemic has brought certain changes in the living patterns of people in Indonesia, and the media has played a greater role by fostering public health information. Furthermore, there has been a significant increase in the usage of media communication channels to disseminate information about the virus and to provide guidance on how the spread can be prevented. The study concludes that media has expectedly contributed to shaping public behavior.

Antecedentes

El papel de los medios de comunicación no es solo brindar información sobre asuntos sociales, sino que también tienen un papel importante en la educación sobre las preocupaciones de salud durante la pandemia de COVID-19.

Objetivo

El presente estudio investigó cómo las redes de medios en Indonesia respondieron al COVID-19 al proporcionar estrategias de adaptación para prevenir los efectos de la pandemia. Los objetivos de la investigación actual no solo fueron fomentar la conciencia sobre los problemas de salud, sino también analizar el papel de los medios de comunicación en el cambio de comportamiento público y las preocupaciones de salud.

Métodos

El estudio emplea un diseño de investigación cualitativo y se realizaron entrevistas con el público en general, incluidos aquellos que estaban infectados con COVID-19, estudiantes y personal que trabaja en hospitales, instituciones educativas y departamentos de servicio público. Las entrevistas se analizaron mediante análisis temático.

Resultados

Los hallazgos del estudio revelan que los participantes del estudio adoptaron múltiples estrategias de adaptación para la prevención del COVID-19 que se han introducido, incluida la accesibilidad a los medios para actualizaciones, la participación en los medios en línea para la conexión social, destacando los problemas de salud pública, desarrollando la confianza entre las comunidades y brindando apoyo social a través de los medios.

Conclusión

La pandemia ha provocado ciertos cambios en los patrones de vida de la población de Indonesia, y los medios de comunicación han desempeñado un papel más importante al promover la información sobre salud pública. Además, ha habido un aumento significativo en el uso de los canales de comunicación para difundir información sobre el virus y brindar orientación sobre cómo prevenir la propagación. El estudio concluye que, como era de esperar, los medios de comunicación han contribuido a moldear el comportamiento público.
