Abstract

Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging are complementary techniques in the assessment of fetal head and neck pathology. The aims of this article are to present our experience in evaluating fetuses with head and neck abnormalities, and highlight key MRI findings associated with various abnormalities that affect this region. One particularly important area is that of congenital masses, which are often large in size; in such cases, accurate diagnosis is supported by a multidisciplinary approach, helping to improve the precision of prenatal counselling and to confirm the need for perinatal interventions such as the EXIT procedure.

Keywords:
Fetus
Magnetic resonance imaging
Prenatal diagnosis
Congenital anomalies
Ex-utero intrapartum treatment procedure (EXIT)
Lymphatic malformation
Teratoma
