Andrew Burroughs main research interests were portal hypertension, variceal bleeding, coagulopathy in cirrhosis, primary biliary cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, prognosis in liver disease and liver transplantation. He led world-class clinical research at the Royal Free, which resulted in over 500 peer-reviewed articles with an h-index of over 60. He mentored generations of hepatologists and was responsible for more than 100 international fellows that trained and did research at the Royal Free. He was undoubtedly one of the greatest hepatologists of his time, always full of energy and ideas. Above all, he remained humble, very accessible, generous with his time and always willing to help. In Annals of Hepatology we were honored to have him as associate editor and during all that time he stood out for his enthusiasm, passion, ingenuity and firmness
