2016, Nurse Education TodayCitation Excerpt :Observations to evaluate improvements in the real life setting on the wards also showed a significant increase of hand hygiene compliance for all instances of hand hygiene under observation (64.3% before vs. 79.2% after the intervention). These results are consistent with prior studies, which report that monitoring, feedback and implementation of teaching ‘on the job’ are effective tools in increasing hand hygiene adherence (Maskerine and Loeb, 2006; Benton, 2007; Naikoba and Hayward, 2001; Lent et al., 2009; Pittet et al., 2000; Kampf, 2004). The observations show differences in adherence to different tasks.
Usage of ultraviolet test method for monitoring the efficacy of surgical hand rub technique among medical students

All authors agreed on the positive influence of previous education.9,10,23 We are of the same opinion, noticing the advance between the 2 tests (123 vs 65 students with mistakes).
Facilitators and barriers around teaching concepts of hand hygiene to undergraduate medical students
2014, Journal of Hospital InfectionCitation Excerpt :Further investigation into the factors that promote HH, including a review of the current teaching programme on handwashing, has also been recommended.18 Although the role of education in improving HH practices has been recognized as important, the role of different teaching and learning approaches has not been well examined in relation to medical students' HH compliance.19 Therefore the overall aim of this study was to examine the current practices in teaching HH at a large Australian medical school.
