Sjogren’s syndrome: An update on clinical, basic and diagnostic therapeutic aspects
Highlights
► Sjögren’s syndrome affects around 0.5% of the general adult population. ► This issue of Journal of Autoimmunity contains papers devoted to the Pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. ► Major clinical achievements, regarding the disease, include classification criteria and clinical outcome. ► The implementation of molecular immunology, shed light into the central role of epithelial cells in the pathogenesis of the disease. Therefore the etiologic name of the disease is “autoimmune epithelitis”.

The incidence of selective IgA deficiency has been demonstrated to be higher in celiac disease than in the general population.
