  • Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by CCl<inf>4</inf> exacerbates hepatopathogenic diet-induced experimental NASH

    2023, Annals of Hepatology
    Citation Excerpt :

Protein concentration was measured using the Bradford method, and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as a standard [20]. Collagen content was assessed by determining the hydroxyproline content in hepatic pieces using Ehrlich's reagent (dimethylaminobenzaldehyde), as previously reported [21, 22]. Hepatic samples were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS).

  • Inhalation exposure to cigarette smoke induces endothelial nitric oxide synthase uncoupling and enhances vascular collagen deposition in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

    2020, Food and Chemical Toxicology
    Citation Excerpt :

Measurements were obtained from 3–4 sections per aorta and averaged to minimize experimental deviations. In addition to histological analysis, the amounts of collagen in aorta were also measured biochemically by quantifying hydroxyproline, a non-proteinogenic amino acid mainly present in collagen, as described previously (Prockop and Udenfriend, 1960). Aortas were incubated in 6 M HCl at 95 °C for 20 h to hydrolyze collagen to free amino acids.

  • Naringenin attenuates the progression of liver fibrosis via inactivation of hepatic stellate cells and profibrogenic pathways

    2019, European Journal of Pharmacology
    Citation Excerpt :

Appropriate glucose standards were prepared. Liver collagen content was estimated by measuring the hydroxyproline content in fresh hepatic tissue with Ehrlich's reagent, according to a previously reported method (Prockop and Udenfriend, 1960). Liver samples were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde (dissolved in 1X PBS) for 24 h. Tissue samples were then washed with water, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in paraffin.
