Objective

Systematic review of scientific evidence is a structured method for recovering and analyzing literature on a given problem of interest.

Materials and methods

This article analyzes risk factors, population, race, gender, occupation, wine consumption, diabetes, smoking, epilepsy, and genetic origin that, according to scientific doctrine, are considered to be factors that are related to or predispose to the appearance and development of Dupuytren’s disease. Two different databases were consulted and the search was expanded with a manual review of the literature.

Results and conclusions

These studies are summarized and their results and conclusions are discussed. Northern European origin, hereditary factors, male gender, and smoking are the factors implicated in the appearance and development of Dupuytren’s disease that are supported by the largest amount of scientific evidence.
