RESUMO

Há expectativas entre os especialistas demógrafos que a população humana global atinja o número de 9,4 bilhões nos próximos 50 anos. Esse fenômeno implicará numa série de consequências, principalmente ao que representa à necessidade de terras adicionais, a fim de, se produzirem alimentos a toda essa população. Estima-se que esse montante em bocas consumidoras venha a demandar a ordem de 109 hectares em terras férteis, ou seja, uma área aproximada ao tamanho do Brasil. Por outro lado, não há geograficamente essa quantidade adicional de terra ao globo terrestre com a qualidade necessária que possa representar a expansão das atividades agrícolas dado aos atuais moldes de produção e consumo. Portanto, algumas das alternativas ao alcance da manutenção da segurança alimentar, bem como, ao equilíbrio dos preços dos alimentos, já estão muito além do processo de intensificação da produção. E uma das alternativas possíveis são as fazendas verticais, um modelo de produção de alimentos sustentável envolvendo a junção do rural com o urbano. Logo o objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a viabilidade econômica do modelo de fazenda vertical canadense de maneira a averiguar seus ganhos econômicos e sua amplitude sustentável. O método utilizado foi o “Non-Tradicional Investment Criteria”, através da condição observatório participante. Os resultados apresentaram como um modelo viavelmente econômico e sustentável, bem como, inovador no achatamento das cadeias produtivas.

ABSTRACT

There are expectations among experts that demographers global human population reaches the number of 9.4 billion over the next 50 years. This phenomenon will imply a series of consequences, especially when representing the need for additional land, so if all the food produce this population. It is estimated that this amount of consumer mouths will require the order of 109 acres in cropland, an area roughly the size of Brazil. Moreover, there is geographically the additional quantity of earth globe with the necessary quality that can represent the expansion of agricultural activities given the current patterns of production and consumption. Therefore, some of the alternatives to achieve the maintenance of food security, as well as to balance food prices are already far beyond the process of intensification of production. And one of the possible alternatives are vertical farms, a model of sustainable food production involving the junction of the rural with the urban. Therefore the aim of this study was to evaluate the economic viability of the Canadian model of vertical farm in order to ascertain their economic gains and its amplitude sustainable. The method used was the “Non-Traditional Investment Criteria”, by condition observatory participant. The results presented as a model feasibly economical and sustainable, as well as the flattening of innovative supply chains.
