  • No bacterial growth was observed in 34.7% of cases of mild to moderate clinical mastitis.

  • Approximately half of the mild to moderate cases did not receive antimicrobial treatment.

  • There was excessive use of critically important antimicrobials.

  • Parenteral administration was used in almost 25% of cases of mild to moderate mastitis.

  • On-farm culture provided valuable information to support therapeutic decision-making.

  • A higher abundance of Lactobacillus and Collinsella was observed in the treated group.

  • 16S rRNA sequencing revealed no structural microbiota differences between groups.

  • The dominant genera included Bacteroides, Prevotella, Collinsella, Alloprevotella, and Lactobacillus in both groups.

  • Lack of clinical impact may relate to dosage, duration, or delivery method used.
