Summary

Injuries to the rotator cuff tendon form an important chapter within shoulder pathology that requires rehabilitation treatment and finally undergoes surgery in many cases. This work has reviewed the results obtained in the treatment of these tears with the performance of exercise using elastic bands for progressive resistance. A total of 21 patients diagnosed of painful subacromial syndrome with the presence of partial tears of the supraspinatus tendon, grades I, II, and III of Ellman, who had been followed up for a minimum period of 3 years (mean of 59 months), were reviewed. A methodology of exercise with the application of TheraBand® elastic bands for progressive resistance was applied. The pre- and post-treatment assessment was carried out by the application of the Rowe et al scale with the results being, according to the different sections: Mobility (3.47 vs 8.75), Stability (10.31 vs 30), Pain (1.87 vs 9.37), Function (10.62 vs 43.12). The results obtained with the conservative treatment of the injuries of the rotator cuff can be considered excellent. It is a method that is easy to perform and can be applied at home, thus suggesting that a rehabilitation regime should be continued.
