Abstract
Introduction

The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of eravacycline against 173 anaerobic isolates and compare it with the activity of other antimicrobials used against infections caused by anaerobic microorganisms.

Methods

Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for eravacycline, delafloxacin, piperacillin–tazobactam, meropenem, clindamycin, metronidazole and amoxicillin–clavulanic acid were determined against 173 anaerobic bacterial isolates obtained from several types of human clinical specimens.

Results

MICs were lower for eravacycline than for all other antibiotics tested with the exception of delafloxacin against Bacteroides, Prevotella, Gram-positive anerobic cocci (GPACs) and Clostridium and piperacillin–tazobactam against Clostridium. Two (2.8%) isolates of Bacteroides spp. showed a MIC4μg/mL, along with two (22%) isolates of Phocaeicola spp. and two (11%) of GPACs.

Conclusions

With some exceptions, the present results show lower MICs for eravacycline in comparison to the other antibiotics used against anaerobes.

Introducción

El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la actividad in vitro de eravaciclina frente a 173 aislados anaerobios y compararla con la actividad de otros antimicrobianos utilizados frente a infecciones causadas por microorganismos anaerobios.

Métodos

Se determinaron las concentraciones mínimas inhibitorias de eravaciclina, delafloxacino, piperacilina-tazobactam, meropenem, clindamicina, metronidazol y amoxicilina-ácido clavulánico frente a aislados de anaerobios obtenidos de varios tipos de muestras clínicas humanas.

Resultados

Las CMIs fueron menores para la eravaciclina que para todos los demás antibióticos probados, con la excepción de la delafloxacina frente a Bacteroides, Prevotella, cocos anaerobios grampositivos (GPACs) y Clostridium, y de la piperacilina-tazobactam frente a Clostridium. En dos (2.8%) aislamientos de Bacteroides spp. se observó una CMI ≥4μg/mL, junto con dos (22%) aislamientos de Phocaeicola spp. y dos (11%) de GPACs.

Conclusiones

Salvo algunas excepciones, los resultados actuales muestran CMIs más bajas para la eravaciclina en comparación con otros antibióticos utilizados frente anaerobios.
